Romeo Vitagliano ACS, FALU, FLMI

Romeo began his career in the financial services industry as a producer and later went on to hold increasingly senior executive positions as a risk selection professional. He is privileged to have been Metlife's last chief underwriter in Canada. A former Canadian editor of On The Risk - the Journal of the Academy of Life Underwriting - and author of a number of risk selection papers, newsletters and studies, Romeo's passion remains the reaching out to financial services professionals to both teach and learn more about risk selection. He continues to make presentations to producers and underwriters and has presented to the Ontario Human Rights Commission on the value on insurance underwriting.

A native of Montreal, and graduate of Concordia University, Romeo is both a Fellow of Loma's Life Management (FLMI) and Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU). He has served on the Academy's Life underwriting education committee and is a former executive of the Home Life Office Underwriters Association (HOLUA) and the Association Québecoise des Tarificateurs Vie (AQTV).

Romeo is currently Director of Underwriting for the PPI Financial Group and specializes in impaired and large case handling.

Tim Meagher MD, FRCP, FACP

Dr. Tim Meagher is a graduate of the National University of Ireland. After postgraduate training in Internal Medicine at McGill University he was appointed to The Montreal General Hospital where he practices as a general internist. During his career, he has held a number of senior administrative positions including Physician-in-Chief of the Department of Medicine at the Montreal General Hospital. His present position is Director of Clinical Development at the McGill University Health Centre, in which position he is responsible for the planning of McGill's new $1.1 billion hospital construction project in the west end of Montreal.

Beyond his hospital and university duties, Tim has spent over 25 years consulting in the life insurance industry. He is presently Chief Medical Officer of the Standard Life Assurance Company in Montreal and Chief Medical Officer at Munich Reinsurance Company as well a Consulting Medical Officer to Exam One Canada.

He is Past President of the Canadian Life Insurance Medical Officers Association (CLIMOA). He was recently awarded honorary Fellowships of both the American College of Physicians and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland .

Dr. Meagher has had a career-long interest in medical education at both University level and in the corporate world. He has made many presentations at educational meetings for brokers, underwriters and physicians in both Canada and abroad. He is a regular presenter at the Canadian Life Insurance Medical Officers (CLIMOA) annual meetings and has been an invited speaker at the annual meetings of the American Academy of Insurance Medicine (AAIM) and the Australian Life Underwriters and Claims Association (ALUCA).

James A. Stewart MD, FRCP, FACP

Dr. Jim Stewart is a graduate of the University of Saskatchewan. Following postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at McGill University he attended Duke University in Durham, North Carolina for further training and research in the field of cardiology and cardiovascular ultrasound. He presently holds certification in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease from both the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Upon completion of his training, he was appointed to the staff of the Montreal General Hospital, McGill University where he has practiced and taught Clinical Cardiology and Internal Medicine for more than 25 years. During his tenure, he established and directed the Echocardiography Laboratory at the Montreal General Hospital and functioned   as the Director of a Clinical Teaching Unit covering both inpatient and outpatient services. In addition to his clinical and administrative duties, Dr. Stewart has been active in academic medicine being a former Associate Editor for publications in the field of ultrasound as well as a reviewer and contributor to other medical journals.

In addition to a career in academic medicine, Dr. Stewart has acted as a medical consultant to the insurance industry for more than two decades. He is presently a consultant at both Standard Life Assurance of Canada and Reassurance General of America. He is a long time member of CLIMOA (Canadian Life Insurance Medical Officers Association).

Dr. Stewart has held a life long interest in medical education and the practice of clinical medicine and cardiology; particularly its synergistic relationship to insurance medicine and medical underwriting. He maintains a keen interest in the application of medical advances to risk assessment.
